On May 26, 2016, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology held a press release on the 12th Five-Year Plan SciTech Innovation Exhibition. More than 20 press agencies attended the press release, including People’s Daily, Economic Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Xinhua Net, and Science and Technology Daily.
The exhibition will be held at Beijing Exhibition Centre on June 1-7, 2016 under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the Department of Armament Development of the Central Military Commission. The 18 participating departments include the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Energy Administration, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the China Association for Science and Technology, and the Beijing Municipal Government, etc.
The 19,000㎡ exhibition is divided into 10 sections, i.e. General Info, Major Projects, Basic Research, High Technology, Agricultural Technologies, Livelihood Technologies, Regional Innovation, Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Innovative Talents and Participation in the Global Innovation Network. The focus will be put on the presentation of breakthrough in basic research and high technology, industrial restructuring and improvement of people’s wellbeing, development of regional industries, as well as mass entrepreneurship and innovation.
The exhibition has the following five features:
I. Holistic vision. The exhibition features systematic design and layout in a bid to showcase the progress of an innovative nation, sci-tech reforms, and China’s sci-tech strengths;
II. Key points and highlights. The focus is put on achievements of National S&T Programs with relevant departments and local departments working together to pick out major highlights of scientific achievements and select the major symbolic achievements under the 12th Five-Year Plan;
III. Innovative ideas of exhibition. Through combination of project display and personnel display, success in HR development, and mass entrepreneurship and innovation will be emphasized while showcasing technologies and products;
IV. Innovative modality of exhibition. Modern technological tools will be adopted in the exhibition, like virtual reality, naked-eye 3D and other means of multimedia, so as to showcase S&T achievements through online browsing, Weibo micro-blogging and WeChat;
V. Accessibility. Scientific theories will be demonstrated in an easy-to-understand manner, highlighting achievements that concern the public like environmental protection, food safety, and livelihood improvement. Besides, interactive activities with visitors will be designed so as to offer them a better experience and a better sense of achievement.
