Vice Minister Xu Nanping Attends MIECF

 

At the invitation of Macau Secretary of Transport and Public Works Lo Lap Man, China’s Vice Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Xu Nanping attended and addressed the opening ceremony of Macau International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF) on March 30–April 1, 2016.

At the opening ceremony of MIECF, Vice Minister Xu Nanping said green development has become an important global trend. Many countries are exploring an efficient, balanced and sustainable mode of economic growth and social development. Since the 18th national session of CPC, China has placed ecological civilization in a more strategic position. By following the concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared growth, the nation is forging ahead with green development, renewable development and low-carbon development. During his speech, Vice Minister Xu said the Ministry will accelerate institutional reform of the S&T sector; increase input into environmental science and industries; accelerate the platform development and technology transfer so as to foster new growth poles in the environmental industries; and promote international cooperation and planning of environmental science and industries. Meanwhile, Vice Minister Xu expressed his hope that S&T cooperation will be strengthened between China’s mainland and Macau to advance the growth of environmental industries in Macau.

During the visit to Macau, Vice Minister Xu Nanping also met with Lo Lap Man, Macau Secretary of Transport and Public Works, Chen Sixi, Deputy Director of the Macau-based Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, and Ma Zhiyi, President of the Science and Technology Development Fund. The talk covered cooperation between China’s mainland and Macau to promote relevant industries. Meanwhile, Vice Minister Xu went Macau University and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), talking with heads of the two institutions and visiting the Macau Partner Lab of the State Key Lab on Quality Research in Chinese Medicine.
