On June 5, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang met with the visiting U.S. Under Secretary of State Catherine Novelli in the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
VM Wang talked about the implementation of China’s Innovation-driven Development Strategy and the newly-convened National Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation. VM Wang said China put science, technology and innovation in a more important position while accelerating implementation of the innovation strategy and expanding the international cooperation to achieve common development. He made a positive comment on China-U.S. cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, health and human resources, among others, hoping the two sides will deepen the ties in science, technology and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. VM Wang said relevant government departments on two sides should look into the future, play an active role in creating the ecosystem, innovate modality of cooperation, and build platforms for cooperation so as to address global challenges and generate benefits to the people.
Under Secretary of State Novelli appreciated the achievements China had made in science, technology and innovation, saying the U.S. side was willing to work together with China to continue pushing forward the existing sci-tech exchange and cooperation. The two sides will jointly design topics for collaboration, facilitate application of the cooperation outcomes for the well-being of the two peoples, and make contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.
Other participants from MOST included Secretary General Xu Jianpei, DG of Policy, Regulations and Supervision He Defang, and DDG of International Cooperation Cai Jianing.
