S&T Pillar meeting under the China-U.S. High-level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) was held in Beijing on June 6th, 2016. The meeting was co-chaired by Cai Jianing, Associate Counsel of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Jonathan Margolis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of State.
Cai hoped the two sides could explore new models of cooperation on the basis of communication and exchanges and push forward substantive outcomes of people-to-people exchanges in the field of science and technology. Margolis said the U.S. side is willing to further cooperate with China to open up new areas of cooperation based on traditional projects such as Young Scientists Exchange Program.
Delegates from government departments, research institutions and non-profit organizations of the two countries had productive discussions on such topics as research cooperation between young scientists, public engagement in science and technology, cooperation on big science projects and antimicrobial resistance.
