China & Kazakhstan to Build Ecological Barrier

Lately the China-Kazakhstan Project on Ecological Barrier along the Silk Road Economic Belt was officially launched in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.

The project aims to build an ecological barrier for the capital circle of Kazakhstan by leveraging China’s sophisticated technologies and management techniques. The project team is to carry out research on the current ecological environment in the Astana region, select and grow suitable plants, explore technological solutions for soil improvement, and develop a location-specific technological system. The barrier is expected to become a pilot and a demonstration. Training courses will also be provided to local technicians. China’s technologies and products provide guarantee for the building of a demonstration along the Silk Road Economic Belt.

Cooperation parties are the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University. At the launch ceremony, the principle investigator from the XIEG briefed on the background, contents, expected results, overall idea, implementation scheme, division of work and annual plans. Kazakhstan thanked China for the advanced ecological technologies and hoped the two sides could work together to present the accomplishment of the project to the 2017 World Expo to be held in Astana.
