The “2016 Macau Science and Technology Week and Projects Exhibition”, held on July 7-10, came to a successful conclusion at the Convention and Exhibition Centre, Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. The event was organized by the Science and Technology Council of Macau SAR, and co-hosted by the Science Popularization Working Group of Science and Technology Council, China Science and Technology Exchange Centre, and the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macau SAR, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China.

Opening ceremony for the event was held in the afternoon of July 6. A group of main guests attended the ceremony and visited the exhibition, including Chui Sai Peng, Vice Chairman of the Science and Technology Council of Macau SAR, Xu Jun, Assistant to the Economic Department at the Liaison Office of the Central People‘s Government in the Macau SAR, Zhang Jian, Director of General Affairs at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau SAR, Tong Chi Kin, Convener of the Science Popularization Working Group of Science and Technology Council, Ma Chi Ngai, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macau SAR, and Ge Pu, Deputy Party Secretary of China Science and Technology Exchange Centre.
 
The Science and Technology Week was themed on “Smart Life - Our Future” with the participation of 43 entities, including research institutes and enterprises from the mainland and the science museum, colleges, universities, high and elementary schools from Macau. China Science and Technology Exchange Centre brought eight scientific research institutes and enterprises to take 11 large interactive exhibits to the exhibition, including a smart labyrinth, robot contest, concept racing car, 4D-simulated F1 racing car, brain function meter and smart home system. The exhibits were so popular among local citizens, especially high and elementary school students. The exhibition, presented by the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macau, showcased 53 local achievements in science popularization. In addition, the Macau leg of the World Robot Olympiad, Robot Boxing League Macau Open, science lectures, physical experiments as well as science workshops were also staged during the exhibition.
 
The “Macau Science and Technology Week and Projects Exhibition” is an important part of the cooperation on science popularization between the mainland and the Science and Technology Council of Macau, and it has won great support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and Macau SAR. The week-long event has once again strengthened science popularization exchange and communication between research institutes and enterprises from the mainland and higher education institutions and middle and elementary school students from Macau, prompting local citizens, especially teenagers, to show greater interest in science and technology and producing favorable responses and results.
