The wrap-up meeting for the 2016 East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI) in China and the 10th China-U.S. Young Scientist Forum (YSF) were held in Beijing on August 5th, 2016. Attendants included more than 50 young scholars from universities, research institutes and enterprises on the Chinese side and 39 young scholars from famous U.S. universities. Cai Jianing, Assocaited Counsel from the Department of International Cooperation, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and David H. Rank, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy in Beijing, attended the event and delivered speeches. 

EAPSI in China Program has been successfully organized in China for 13 years since 2004. A total of 470 excellent American scientists did collaborative research with their Chinese counterparts under instructions of Chinese advisors, and their research work has been appraised by the governments, universities and research institutes from both sides. With joint support from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the U.S. National Science Foundation, 39 American researchers joined the 2016 EAPSI in China Program and carried out productive joint research in a period of eight weeks.

At the YSF, representatives from China and the U.S. had lively discussions about impacts on scientific research brought by cross-cultural exchanges and the relationship between personal interest, research directions and career development. The YSF is an important achievement under the mechanism of China-U.S. High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange. It aims to promote scientific and technological exchange between young people in China and the U.S. and lay the groundwork for further bilateral cooperation in the long run.
