Exhibition of S&T Achievements 2011-2015 Held in Macao

The Exhibition of China‘s Science and Technology Achievements during the 12th Five-Year Plan Period (2011-2015) opened in Macao on the morning of October 7th, 2016. With the support of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Exhibition was organized by the Science and Technology Council of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and co-organized by the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macao SAR and the China Science and Technology Exchange Center.

The opening ceremony was attended by over 300 guests and dignitaries, including Chui Sai On, Macao SAR Chief Executive; Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Pan Yundong, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR; Lam Kam Seng, Vice Chairman of the Science and Technology Council of Macao SAR; Wu Zhiliang, President of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation; Ma Chi Ngai, President of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund of the Macao SAR; and Ge Pu, Deputy Party Secretary of China Science and Technology Exchange Centre. Mr. Lam addressed the opening ceremony.

As the first of its kind in Macao, the exhibition lasted till October 12th, 2016. It featured a number of representative exhibits, including the Long March-5 rocket, the C919 passenger plane, the Jiaolong manned submersible and the high-speed rail. There were six sections including aviation, aerospace & deep-sea explorations, information communications & innovation and entrepreneurship, healthcare, energy & transportation, interactive experience, as well as Macao’s technological achievements. These displayed a series of significant technological breakthroughs and achievements made by the mainland and Macao over the recent five years. On the sideline of the Exhibition, five well-recognized scientists from the mainland, including Wu Guanghui, chief designer of the C919 aircraft, gave science lectures to local audience.

The Exhibition is expected to further enhance Macao residents’ understanding of China’s progress in science, technology and innovation, reinforce national pride and identity, increase the interest of younger generations in science, and intensify S&T exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the mainland.
