Wan Gang, Minister of Science and Technology of China met with Jarosław Gowin, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education in Beijing on October 14th, 2016. They exchanged ideas about furthering China-Poland cooperation in S&T innovation and reached broad consensus.
Minister Wan extended a warm welcome to Deputy Prime Minister Gowin for his visit to China. He introduced the innovation-driven development strategy of the Chinese government. Ever since China-Poland S&T Cooperation Agreement was signed over 60 years ago, the two sides have made practical R&D accomplishments under the guidance of bilateral committee on S&T cooperation. The Chinese side would like to work together with Polish counterparts to reinforce top-level design of bilateral cooperation, further cooperation in the R&D of space technology, polar research, biotechnology, medicine and health, electric vehicles, and forest conservation among others. The two sides are to implement the letter of intent on cooperation signed between the two countries to fund joint R&D projects; broaden people-to-people exchange in science and technology, in particular exchanges of young academia, innovators and entrepreneurs; motivate institutions to set up long-term platforms such as joint R&D centers, and commercialization hubs in a bid to promote sustainable development of S&T cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Gowin said that he agreed with Minister Wan Gang on his suggestions, adding that both countries boast friendly bilateral ties, constantly expanded economic and trade cooperation, and increasingly closer cooperation between governments and local sectors. The Polish development strategy of an innovation economy and policies on innovation and entrepreneurship resonate well with China’s innovation-driven development strategy. He hopes the two sides strengthen innovation cooperation so as to enable sustainable economic growth of both countries.
Mirosław Gajewski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to China also participated at the meeting.
