Minister Wan Meets Egyptian Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research

Wan Gang, Minister of Science and Technology of China met with an Egyptian delegation led by Ashraf Mohamed Abdelhamid Elshihy, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research on November 2nd, 2016, the eve of the G20 Science, Technology and Innovation Ministers Meeting. The two sides exchanged views and reached broad consensus on China-Egypt scientific and technological cooperation in the next phase.
   
Minister Wan commended that the long-term friendly cooperation between China and Egypt is a role model of relations between China and Arab, Africa countries and South-South cooperation. He hoped the two sides could push for practical cooperation in areas such as joint research, joint laboratories, science parks, innovation and entrepreneurship and short-term working visits of outstanding Egyptian young scientists to China.
   
Minister Elshihy appreciated outcomes of bilateral cooperation on science and technology, and highlighted the popularity of China’s Talented Young Scientists Program in Egypt. He hoped the two countries could further enhance scientific and technological cooperation and leverage the role of scientific and technological innovation in boosting economic growth and the people’s welfare.
   
In addition, the two sides agreed to explore cooperation on scientific and technological evaluation.
   
Also present were Chen Linhao, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of China; Sun Hong, Director General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center; Mohamed Hossam Eldin EL Mallahy, First Assistant to Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Hussein Ibrahim, Counsellor of Science, Technology, Education and Culture of the Egyptian Embassy to China.
