The Global Environment Facility (GEF) held a meeting to promote the commercialization of fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in China. Officials from the Department of High-tech Development and Industrialization, Ministry of Science and Technology attended the meeting along with representatives of GEF, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the project contractor-China Automotive Technology & Research Center.
The participants discussed the project implementation and progress. The project is the only one that receives funding support from GEF for three phases and gives a strong push to the development of FCEV in China. GEF representatives spoke highly of the preliminary outcomes produced from the project, and suggested all demonstration cities keep dialogues and share information in the next stage to provide valuable experience for accelerating the commercialization of FCEV in China.
The Ministry of Science and Technology and GEF have maintained close partnership. Since 2003, the ministry joined hands with the Ministry of Finance, Beijing and Shanghai municipal governments, as well as GEF and UNDP to successfully implement two phases of the project, and produced remarkable results. The third phase of the project is under way with a goal to commercialize FCEV in China as early as possible.
