Minister Wan Gang met in Beijing with a visiting delegation led by Miguel Arias Cañete, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy on March 30th, 2017. The two sides held in-depth discussions on the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) and the 2nd Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-2) to be held in Beijing on June 6 to 8; and the China-EU cooperation on clean energy and climate change.
Minister Wan Gang briefed the EU delegation on the arrangements China has made for CEM8 and MI-2. Commissioner Cañete noted that the two ministerial meetings are of great significance for accelerating the global transition towards clean energy and addressing climate change. The EU fully supports China’s efforts to host the meetings and is willing to work closely with China as it will host CEM9 and MI-3 next year.
The two sides agreed that China and the EU are highly complementary to each other in science, technology and innovation related to clean energy. Both sides look forward to jointly promoting China-EU cooperation in clean energy R&D and innovation, to cope with global climate change and enrich the China-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Also present were officials from the Ministry’s Department of International Cooperation, Department of High-Tech Development and Industrialization, and Department of Science & Technology for Social Development; and Mr. Hans Dietmar Schweiscgut, EU Ambassador to China.
