On May 13, 2017, Wang Zhigang, Secretary of the CPC Leading Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, met with the delegation led by Mongolian Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Jamiyansuren Batsuuri, who visited China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Wang spoke highly of the pragmatic cooperation between China and Mongolia in science and technology. He pointed out that, with consensus on promoting Belt and Road STI cooperation, China and Mongolia should fully leverage the intergovernmental S&T cooperation joint committee as a coordinating mechanism to drive STI cooperation in extensive areas including science park development in Mongolia, joint research, joint laboratory, and technology transfer to strongly support connectivity of the Belt and Road Initiative with Mongolia’s development strategies. Meanwhile, the Chinese side welcomed the Mongolian side to recommend more outstanding young scientists to engage in research work in China.
Batsuuri said that Mongolia attaches great importance to science, technology and innovation and looks to strengthen communication with China, further deepen and expand bilateral science and technology cooperation, and make more contributions towards the implementation of consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries through various innovation cooperation models including science park cooperation and science and technology people-to-people exchange.
After the meeting, Wang and Batsuuri signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sport of Mongolia on Young Scientist Exchange.
The meeting and the signing ceremony were also attended by Zhu Xuehua, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST, Chen Jiachang, Director General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC), and Zhang Zhihong, Director General of the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center.
During his visit, Batsuuri attended the relevant meetings and activities of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and demonstrated with Wang bilateral science and technology cooperation outcomes at the parallel session on People-to-People Connectivity of the BRF on May 14.
