On June 6, 2018, the Third Meeting of the S&T Cooperation Committee of China-Ukraine Intergovernmental Commission was held in Yantai, China, co-chaired by Zhang Jianguo, Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China and Maksym Strikha, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
At the meeting, the two sides briefed each other on their national STI policy, S&T system reform progress, and latest S&T achievements. The Chinese side, in particular, introduced China’s STI policy for the new era established at the 19th CPC National Congress. The two sides exchanged views and reached wide agreement on deepening China-Ukraine STI cooperation. The two sides agreed to 1) further strengthen people-to-people exchange in S&T and step up cooperation in S&T talent exchange and incentivization within the framework of the Belt and Road Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan; 2) promote pragmatic project cooperation and on this basis establish long-term mechanisms such as joint laboratories; 3) support bilateral industrial cluster cooperation and encourage their technology companies to set up joint R&D centers or production bases in the other country; and 4) continue to deepen bilateral region-level S&T cooperation and increase the level of cooperation. Relevant decisions were written into the Minutes of the Third S&T Cooperation Committee Meeting of China-Ukraine Intergovernmental Commission.
After the meeting, the co-chairs of the S&T committee attended the Opening Ceremony of China (Yantai) International Workshop on Ocean Engineering Equipment and toured the China Shandong Exhibition of Achievements of China-Ukraine S&T Cooperation.
According to the agreement reached, the fourth bilateral S&T Cooperation Committee Meeting will be held in Ukraine in 2020.
