On September 12, 2018, the 15th China-ASEAN Expo was held in Nanning, Guangxi. Vice Minister of Science and Technology Zhang Jianguo attended the opening ceremony of the Expo. Under the joint witness of Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng and leaders of ASEAN countries, Vice Minister Zhang Jianguo jointly launched the Young ASEAN Scientist Innovation China Tour Project with Thai Minister of Science and Technology Suvit Maesincee, Lao Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Houmphanh Intharath, Undersecretary of the Philippine Department of Science and Technology Rowena Guevara, Myanmar Deputy Minister of Education U Win Maw Tun and Cambodian Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft Tung Ciny.
The Innovation Tour in China for Young ASEAN Scientists was an important part of China-ASEAN cooperation in science, technology and innovation (STI). Young scientists from ASEAN countries made field visits to universities, research institutions, enterprises and science parks in China, with a view to promoting people-to-people exchanges in science and technology and laying foundation for pushing forward cooperation in STI between China and ASEAN countries.
After the opening ceremony, Vice Minister Zhang Jianguo visited the Pavilion of Advanced Technology of the Expo. The Advanced Technology Exhibition was one of the five major thematic exhibitions of the 15th China-ASEAN Expo. Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Peopleās Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the exhibition had a floor space of more than 4,100m2, showcasing over 430 projects from more than 170 organizations, involving 19 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, as well as Thailand, Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. It covered artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, smart city, innovation and entrepreneurship, big health innovation technology, electronic information, new materials, new energy and other fields.
