On the morning of September 17, 2018, Zhang Jianguo, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, met with a delegation led by CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti.
Vice Minister Zhang Jianguo reviewed China‘s sound cooperation with CERN over the years and said that China would continuously support China’s high energy physics community to work closely with CERN. He said that China is willing to restart the cooperation committee mechanism with CERN and further the discussion on some important issues. Meanwhile, Vice Minister Zhang Jianguo hoped that CERN could support China in development of circular electron-positron collider.
Director-General Fabiola Gianotti actively echoed Vice Minister Zhang Jianguo‘s proposal and briefed her Chinese host on CERN and its cooperation with other countries. She welcomed China’s commitment to further strengthen and expand cooperation with CERN.
Deputy Director General Chen Linhao of the Department of International Cooperation and Deputy Director General Cui Tuo of the Department of Basic Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Academician Wang Yifang, Director of the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Academician Zhao Zhengguo of the University of Science and Technology of China were present at the meeting.
