On September 18, 2018, Minister Wang Zhigang met in Beijing with Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, Canada, and his delegation.
Minister Wang Zhigang welcomed Premier Moe and his delegation on their first visit to the Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST), and introduced the functions and responsibilities of the Ministry of Science and Technology, especially its work to mobilize universities, enterprises and research institutions in the areas of basic research, applied research and technology innovation and coordinate the work of science, technology and innovation. Minister Wang Zhigang briefed Premier Moe and his delegation on the status quo of cooperation between MOST and relevant departments of the Canadian federal government and provincial governments in the field of science, technology and innovation. Minister Wang Zhigang said that in the light of Saskatchewan‘s scientific research and industrial characteristics, the two sides could explore ways to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of agriculture and energy.
Premier Moe briefed the Chinese host on Saskatchewan’s research plans in the fields of food safety, energy development and carbon capture and storage, and said that Saskatchewan would like to strengthen exchanges and joint research with China on common issues in the development of agriculture and energy industries so as to promote sustainable and healthy industrial and economic growth.
Ye Dongbai, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Xu Jing, Director General of the Department of Innovation and Development, and Wu Yuanbin, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development of MOST, and Hao Zhongwei, Deputy Director General of the Department of American & Oceanian Affairs of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, were present at the meeting.
