On October 17, 2018, the 22nd Meeting of S&T Subcommittee of the Chinese-Russian Committee on Preparing Regular Meetings of the Government Heads was held in Moscow. The meeting was co-chaired by Zhang Jianguo, Chinese co-chair of the committee, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and Grigory Vladimirovich Trubnikov, Russian co-chair of the committee and First Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues including the current situation and outlook of China-Russia cooperation in science, technology and innovation, cooperation within the framework of mega-science projects, pragmatic mega-project cooperation, and joint S&T exchange activities. The two sides agreed to give full scope to the role of the S&T Cooperation Committee as a main channel of China-Russia intergovernmental S&T cooperation and strengthen coordination to create more favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation in science, technology and innovation. The two sides also confirmed a batch of new R&D cooperation projects. After the meeting, the co-chairs signed the protocol of the meeting.
Before the meeting, the co-chairs addressed the opening ceremony of the First China-Russia Science, Technology and Innovation Day event co-organized within the framework of the regular meeting. The event was attended by more than 100 representatives from Chinese and Russian research institutes, universities and enterprises. There were parallel sessions on different subjects including new materials, smart transportation, energy technology and AI. Participants communicated with each other about projects and cooperation to lay the foundation for subsequent pragmatic cooperation.
In accordance with the agreement reached by the two sides, the 23rd meeting will be held in China in 2019.
