On February 14, 2019, Ye Dongbai, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, met with Cuban Ambassador to China Miguel Angel Ramirez and his delegation in Beijing. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on China-Cuba cooperation in STI, China-Cuba Joint Committee Meeting on Inter-governmental Cooperation in Science and Technology.
DG Ye Dongbai said that both China and Cuba place STI at the core of promoting economic and social development and there is great potential for STI cooperation between the two countries. He noted that the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology attaches great importance to STI cooperation with Cuba and proposed that the two sides should further enrich the content of cooperation and bring about more cooperation modes on the basis of their existing cooperation and carry out pragmatic cooperation in areas of common interest through joint research, personnel exchange and other means. DG Ye Dongbai said that China welcomes Cuba’s Minister of Science, Technology and Environment to visit China this year and the two sides can convene the 11th Meeting of the China-Cuba Joint Committee on Inter-governmental Cooperation in Science and Technology.
Ambassador Miguel Angel Ramirez briefed the Chinese host on the development of STI in Cuba and said that science and technology is the core element to promote productivity progress. He said that Cuba is willing to carry out exchanges and cooperation with China in the fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology, neuroscience and climate change and that the two sides can further exchange views on relevant topics through the China-Cuba Joint Committee on Intergovernmental Cooperation in Science and Technology.
The two sides also discussed research personnel exchanges, science parks and other topics.
