On May 13-14, 2019, the third meeting of BRICS Working Group on Science, Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Partnership was held in Iguazu, Brazil, with representatives from BRICS countries participating. Ambassador Achilles Zaluar of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice Minister of Antonio Franciscangelis Neto of the Brazilian Ministry of Science,Technology, Innovation and Communications, and Director Jorge Augusto Callado Afonso of Itaipu Technological Park (ITP) attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Ambassador Achilles Zaluar presided over the meeting. The Chinese delegation was headed by Chen Linhao, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), comprising members from the Department of International Cooperation of MOST, Kunming Science and Technology Bureau, Shanghai Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Center, Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai and International Technology Transfer Network.
The meeting covered the following core topics: the establishment of BRICS Science Park, Technology and Business Incubator and SME Network (Innovate BRICS Network), the development of BRICS technology transfer centers and the BRICS Young Scientists Forum. The meeting focused on discussions of the implementation framework of the Innovate BRICS Network, the construction plan of BRICS Technology Transfer Center and the work plan for the next step, as well as the introduction of the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship into the BRICS Youth Scientists Forum. The five countries agreed to follow the instructions of the BRICS leaders and deliver on the Durban Declaration adopted at the Sixth BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Meeting, and make substantive progress in the above initiative within the year.
After the meeting, the five countries adopted the Minutes of the meeting. In parallel, the third meeting of BRICS Working Group on ICT and High-Performance Computing was held in Iguazu, Brazil.
