On April 30, 2019, Minister Wang Zhigang of the Ministry of Science and Technology held talks with US Ambassador to China Terry Branstad at China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases of Beijing Tiantan Hospital. Both sides spoke highly of the achievements of China-US cooperation in science and technology over the past 40 years, and exchanged views on China-US cooperation in science and technology and issues of common concern.
Minister Wang Zhigang said that China‘s science and technology development needs to not only provide sustainable and important support for economic and social development and livelihood improvement, but also contribute to global science and technology progress and people’s well-being through open cooperation in science and technology. He remarked that the two sides should maintain a positive attitude, and strengthen communication and exchanges on science and technology policies and regulations, scientific data management, intellectual property protection and other issues of mutual interest through the China-US Joint Commission meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation and other mechanisms, creating a favorable atmosphere for China-US cooperation in science and technology and generating more collaborative results.
Ambassador Branstad appreciated China‘s open and cooperative attitude and said that science and technology cooperation between the two largest economies in the world can not only benefit the two countries, but also make contributions to all mankind. He said that there is potential for cooperation between the two sides in health, environmental governance, agricultural science and technology and other fields and that the US Embassy in China is willing to continue to encourage and support bilateral cooperation in the field of science and technology.
Both sides expressed appreciation for their candid exchanges. After the talks, the two sides jointly visited China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases.
