Director-General Ye Dongbai Meets with Chinese Ambassador-Designate to Mexico Zhu Qingqiao

On April 18, 2019, Ye Dongbai, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), met with Zhu Qingqiao, China’s Ambassador-Designate to Mexico, in the Ministry of Science and Technology. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-Mexico cooperation in science, technology and innovation.

Ye Dongbai said that with the launch and implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, MOST is attaching growing importance to cooperation with Latin American countries in science, technology and innovation. He remarked that since the two countries signed the Inter-governmental Agreement on Science and Technology Cooperation in 1975, China and Mexico have been engaged in effective cooperation through joint call for proposals and personnel exchanges under the framework of the inter-governmental cooperation mechanisms such as the Sub-committee on Science and Technology of the Inter-governmental Standing Committee of the two countries. Director-General Ye Dongbai said that MOST will make good use of the existing cooperation mechanism with its Mexican counterpart to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, agricultural technology and other fields, push forward the transfer and commercialization of research findings, and boost industrial development in both countries.

Ambassador-Designate Zhu Qingqiao appreciated the achievements of China-Mexico cooperation in science, technology and innovation. He called for efforts to learn about the needs of science and technology cooperation between China and Mexico, straighten out the direction of cooperation pick priority areas, leverage the role of industry, academia and research institutions, push forward high-quality and high-efficiency cooperation in science, technology and innovation, and contribute to the economic transformation and upgrading of the two countries.
