From September 16 to 18, 2019, Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang accompanied Premier Li Keqiang to St. Petersburg for the 24th China-Russia Prime Ministers’ Regular Meeting and related events.
Facilitating China-Russia cooperation in science, technology and innovation is an important topic of this regular meeting between Chinese and Russian Prime Ministers. Both sides recognized that cooperation in cross-border e-commerce, science, technology, innovation and other emerging areas has continued to show new bright spots and that the two sides should strengthen practical cooperation in basic research, applied research and research commercialization.
According to the Joint Communique of the Twenty-Fourth China-Russia Prime Ministers’ Regular Meeting, China and Russia will effectively carry out the design, preparation, organization and implementation of“Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation”in 2020 and 2021; sponsor cooperation projects carried out by research institutes, universities, enterprises and innovation institutions in priority areas, especially in strengthening frontier and original research, including enhancing bilateral coordination and cooperation in mega facilities for scientific research; continue China-Russia dialogue in innovation and accelerate the establishment of the China-Russia Joint Science, Technology and Innovation Fund.
