Scientific and technological cooperation is an important part in the China-Turkmenistan relationship. In order to break new ground in China-Turkmenistan cooperation on science, technology and innovation, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences formally signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation between the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Peopleās Republic of China and the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences on July 12, 2021.
The MOU aims to expand cooperation between China and Turkmenistan and consolidate cooperation in science, new technologies and innovative activities. According to the MOU, the two sides will conduct joint research on science and technologies of mutual concern and of great significance to the economic and social development of the two countries, establish and expand direct contacts between research institutions of the two countries, and share sci-tech information. The MOU also stipulates rules and conditions for the use of intellectual property rights and research results obtained through cooperation.
In order to follow through on the consensus reached by the heads of China and Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences held China-Turkmenistan Science Innovation Forums successively in 2017 and 2018, which were a complete success. In the two forums, relevant research institutes on the two sides reached cooperation consensus on a number of areas. The MOU will provide strong support for the implementation of relevant cooperation projects and facilitating more bilateral sci-tech innovation cooperation intentions.
