The Fourth Meeting of the Sub-committee on Science and Technology Cooperation of China-Ukraine Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee Successfully Held

On December 21, 2021, the fourth meeting of the Sub-committee on Science and Technology Cooperation of China-Ukraine Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held via video link. Chinese Vice Minister of Science and Technology Zhang Guangjun and Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Education and Science Shkuratov Oleksii Ivanovych co-chaired the meeting.
 
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged information on their latest science, technology and innovation (STI) policies and plans, briefed each other on the implementation of researcher mobility projects agreed upon at the third meeting of the sub-committee, reviewed and adopted the list of China-Ukraine researcher mobility projects for 2022-2023. Both sides presented the progress on the development of joint STI cooperation platform, discussed the proposals for further deepening China-Ukraine STI cooperation, and agreed on the time and venue of the fifth meeting.
 
Vice Minister Zhang Guangjun said that science and technology cooperation is an important part of the strategic partnership between China and Ukraine. Since the signing of the agreement on intergovernmental science and technology cooperation, the two sides have carried out fruitful cooperation in personnel exchange, project implementation, and platform building. Looking into the future, the two sides should fully leverage the Sub-committee on Science and Technology Cooperation to increase people-to-people exchanges in the field of science and technology, facilitate the two-way flow of researchers, promote joint projects in key areas, support the establishment of long-term cooperation platforms and encourage cooperation between industrial clusters of the two sides.
 
Deputy Minister Shkuratov Oleksii Ivanovych noted the progress of China-Ukraine science and technology cooperation and the keen enthusiasm in cooperation between the science communities of the two countries, and pledged to increase funding for China-Ukraine STI cooperation. He expressed his hope that against the context of the pandemic, the two sides will maintain interaction in an online format, and continue to facilitate project cooperation and platform building to boost the industrial development of both countries.

Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Fan Xianrong, Chargé d‘affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in China Zhanna Leshchynska, as well as Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology Chen Linhao, Director-General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center Gao Xiang, Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology Lao Zhihong and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau Lei Hong attended the meeting.
