On May 9, 2022, Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang held a video meeting with Daniel Filmus, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Argentina. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-Argentina cooperation in science, technology and innovation.

Minister Wang Zhigang said that China and Argentina are good friends and good partners. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Argentina diplomatic relations between China and Argentina. President Xi Jinping had a cordial and fruitful meeting with President Alberto Fernandez of Argentina, who visited China and attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The two heads of state agreed to deepen cooperation in various fields, including science and technology, and jointly usher in another 50 years of brilliant achievementsin China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership. Science, technology and innovation cooperation is an important part of China-Argentina relations, and the industry, academia and research institutes of the two sides have engaged in fruitful cooperation in areas such as joint research, demonstration projects and people-to-people exchanges. China is ready to work with Argentina to implement the consensus of the two heads of state, drive economic and social development with science, technology and innovation cooperation, deepen multilateral and bilateral science and technology cooperation at the regional level through the China-CELAC Science and Technology Innovation Forum, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind with concrete actions.

 

Minister Daniel Filmus applauded the achievements and positive progress of China-Argentina cooperation in science and technology and endorsed the cooperation proposals put forward by the Chinese side. He noted that the Argentinean side attaches great importance to its science and technology relations with China and stands ready to keep pushing forward mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of science and technology. The two sides are actively implementing the memorandum of understanding on the exchange program for young scientists and the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in science parks and innovation and entrepreneurship, and carrying out a wide range of activities under the framework of the China-Argentina Research Center on Innovation and Technology Policy to put into practice the important consensus between the two heads of state and contribute to the progress of science and technology and the well-being of the people.

Chinese Ambassador to Argentina Zou Xiaoli and Argentina Ambassador to China Gustavo Sabino Vaca Narvaja attended the video meeting. The two ambassadors commended the continuous innovation of the China-Argentina science and technology cooperation mechanism, as well as the progress of key projects and productive results of cooperation, and expressed congratulations on the launch of the China-Argentina Research Center on Innovation and Technology Policy.

 

After the meeting, representatives from both sides attended the launching ceremony of the China-Argentina Center for Innovation and Technology Policy Research.
