On March 31, 2023, Vice Minister Wu Zhaohui met in Beijing with Prof. Deborah Terry AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Queensland, Australia. The two sides had an in-depth and fruitful exchange on topics of common interest and looked forward to future research cooperation.
Vice Minister Wu noted that the Chinese government prioritizes science, technology and innovation (STI) and international STI cooperation and China‘s opening door will only get wider. China and Australia have achieved fruitful results since the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology in 1980. The Ministry of Science and Technology would continue to promote the people-to-people exchanges and R&D cooperation between the two countries, and encourage and support universities, research institutions, academic alliances and enterprises to cooperate in areas of global challenges facing the mankind and areas of broader common interest, so as to contribute to the global sustainable development goals.
Vice-Chancellor Terry introduced the good relations and high level of collaboration between the University of Queensland and several Chinese universities, research institutions and enterprises, and highly agreed with Vice Minister Wu’s perspective on STI cooperation between the two countries. She said she would continue to deepen the cooperation with Chinese partners in areas of common interest and promote people-to-people exchanges.
Mr. Dai Gang, Director General, and Mr. Xu Jie, Deputy Director General, of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Mr. Rongyu Li, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Queensland were present during the meeting.
