On April 4, 2023, Minister Wang Zhigang met in Beijing with visiting Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan (Deputy Prime Minister level). In a pragmatic and efficient manner, the two sides discussed directions and specific measures for deepening China-Indonesia cooperation on science, technology and innovation(STI), and they agreed to promote further cooperation in areas of common interest like agricultural technology, marine cooperation, health care, and sci-tech parks.
Minister Wang Zhigang said that China and Indonesia are major developing countries and important emerging economies, with extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation. Last November, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo met in Bali, Indonesia, and reached the important consensus on jointly building a community with a shared future, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations. The Ministry of Science and Technology of China hopes to work with Indonesia to deepen bilateral STI cooperation, to play a more important role in advancing bilateral relations, and make greater contributions to both countries’ scientific and technological progress, economic and social development, and the well-being of the people.
Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan introduced the key areas of bilateral STI cooperation, and expressed the willingness to work with the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote pragmatic cooperation and produce tangible achievements as early as possible.
The meeting was attended by Zhang Guangjun, Vice Minister of Science and Technology; Pan Xiaodong, Director-General of the General Office; Zhu Xuehua, Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development; Dai Gang, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation; Gao Xiang, Director-General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center, and Wang Rongfang, Director-general-level Counsellor at the Department of International Cooperation; as well as Indonesian officials, including Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Vice Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun, Deputy for Environment and Forestry Management, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Nani Hendiarti, and Executive Vice Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Mohammad.
