The 9th East Asia Summit New Energy Forum was successfully held in Kunming on June 29-30, 2023. The forum, themed on“building more open and inclusive cooperation mechanisms to provide new impetus for green economic recovery”, was organized by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Yunnan Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Dai Gang, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
The forum was proposed by Chinese leaders at the East Asia Summit, aiming to strengthen cooperation among member countries in the field of new energy. In his speech, Dai Gang said that the forum has become an important mechanism for regional countries to strengthen policy exchanges, practical cooperation, to address climate change and ecological challenges, and to promote sustainable development in the region. To further advance the institutional development of the forum and establish a stable and long-term cooperation mechanism, China supports to establish the secretariat for the forum in Yunnan, efforts are being made to construct a framework for scientific and technological innovation cooperation among East Asia Summit member countries, and to promote regional cooperation.
The forum was attended by about 200 representatives from government departments, research institutions, universities, companies, and international organizations. The forum conducted discussions on policy development, cutting-edge technologies, product promotion, cooperation mechanism, and case sharing in the field of new energy through theme reports, keynote speeches, roundtable dialogues, parallel forums, and project visits.
