The inauguration ceremony of China-LAC Technology Transfer Center was held on June 28, 2023 in Dongguan. Zhang Guangjun, Vice Minister attended and addressed the ceremony.
Zhang Guangjun said that the friendship between China and Latin American and the Caribbean States is growing stronger and deeply rooted in the people‘s hearts. President Xi Jinping pointed out that China-LAC cooperation is based on mutual respect, guided by the principle of reciprocity, characterized by openness and inclusiveness, and aimed at common development. It is in line with the global trend and the common interests of countries in the region. To implement the consensus on cooperation reached at the China-CELAC Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation in 2021, China and Latin American and the Caribbean countries will jointly establish the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center. The inauguration ceremony signifies the transformation of the cooperation consensus into the concrete action.
Zhang Guangjun stressed that Latin American and Caribbean countries are important partners for cooperation in scientific and technological innovation. The China-LAC Technology Transfer Center will enrich the overall cooperation between China and Latin American and the Caribbean countries with new dimensions. He hoped that the two sides will develop the center into a cooperative platform based on consultation, joint construction and shared benefits, a bridge for mutual understanding and friendship, and a collaborative and reciprocal network for technology transfer. By organizing business matchmaking sessions, technology training, and demonstration of advanced technologies, we can further commercialize innovation outcomes and contribute to the high-quality common development.
Zhang Shaokang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province; Pick Fung Ho-Chong, Dean of Caribbean diplomatic missions in China and Surinam’s Ambassador to China; and Yang Shijun, Counselor at the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke at the ceremony. Xu Jie, Deputy Director-General at the Department of International Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, chaired the ceremony.
Representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the Dongguan Municipal People‘s Government, and Dongguan University of Technology attended the event. Pick Fung Ho-Chong, Dean of the Caribbean diplomatic missions in China and Ambassador of Surinam to China, Anyin Choo, Ambassador of the Guyana to China, and Analisa Low, Ambassador of the Trinidad and Tobago to China with representatives from some 20 Latin American and Caribbean embassies in China and consulates in Guangzhou, as well as young diplomats from Latin American and the Caribbean countries also attended the event. There are representatives from industries, universities, and enterprises from China and LAC countries.
Prior to the inauguration ceremony, Zhang Guangjun met with diplomatic envoys from Latin American and Caribbean countries. After the ceremony, the China-LAC Technology Exchange and Cooperation Development Forum was held. Representatives from China and LAC countries engaged in in-depth discussions on the theme of “Innovation Cooperation, Shared Development, and High-quality Dialogue between China and LAC countries under the Belt and Road Initiative”.
