Minister Wang Zhigang Attends the 11th Forum on China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation and Delivers Keynote Speech

  The 11th Forum on China-ASEAN Technology Transfer and Collaborative Innovation, jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) and the People‘s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, opened in Nanning on July 13, 2023. The theme of the conference is“Cooperation on Science and Technology Together for a Beautiful Home.”Minister Wang Zhigang attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. Lan Tianli, Governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, attended the event and made a speech. Wang Zhigang stated that China and ASEAN are good neighbors, good friends, and good partners. President Xi Jinping’s initiative to jointly build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home has set direction for deepening regional relations. China and ASEAN have a solid foundation, tremendous potential, and broad prospects for STI cooperation. MOST is willing to further deepen regional cooperation with ASEAN countries. We can improve multi-level cooperation mechanisms, expand cooperation in all areas, build high-level cooperation platforms, and develop a collaboration model between industry, academia, and research so that we achieve more inclusive, sustainable, and high-quality development with science, technology and innovation. MOST will continue to support Guangxi in expanding cooperation channels, enhancing cooperation levels, and creating cooperation highlights. It will also support high-quality development of the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center, and make greater contributions to regional common prosperity and a closer community with a shared future.

  Chhem Kieth Rethy, Cambodian Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation; Chang Lih Kang, Malaysian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation; and Myo Thein Kyaw, Myanmar‘s Minister for Science and Technology addressed the conference. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN; Laksana Tri Handoko, Chairman of the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia; Renato Solidum Jr., Secretary of Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines; and Pasit Lorterapong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Thailand, delivered video speeches at the conference. They said that China has always been a close partner of ASEAN member countries. They sincerely hope that ASEAN and China will further deepen regional cooperation in science, technology and innovation and make more technology developments and cooperative achievements benefit the people of ASEAN countries.

  The 2023 China-ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was launched at the conference. The Artificial Intelligence Development and Cooperation Initiative towards ASEAN and the Work Plan for China-ASEAN Exchange and Cooperation on Science Popularization were released at the conference. The conference featured such events as the 5th 10+3 Young Scientists Forum, the first Forum on China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Cooperation, and the China-ASEAN International Forum on Innovation and Cooperation for Sustainable Development. At the main forum, Liu Zhonghua and Lu Jun, members of Chinese Academy of Engineering; Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Center; Sisadee Tonsumrit, Director of the National Biorepository of Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency; Li Guozhong, Director-General of the Science and Technology Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; and Li Jinsong, Party Secretary of the Science and Technology Department of Hainan Province, engaged in in-depth discussions on strengthening China-ASEAN cooperation on science, technology and innovation. Officials from China and ASEAN countries‘science and technology departments, representatives from domestic and international technology transfer organizations, enterprises, universities, and research institutions participated in these activities.
